Biochar technologies at the Water Energy Food nexus in African: a unique window for climate-smart agriculture

Kurzbeschreibung

Data derived from experiments with biochar kilns used as cook stoves has been collected in Kenya/Uganda in the
project “BCL – Adapt” (production and use of biochar, compost and lime as component of integrated soil fertility
management and sustainable land use for agro-ecological intensification of common bean and maize cropping in
smallholder farming systems of eastern Uganda). The aim of the thesis is to compile and model this data to calculate
carbon input-output data into scenario and regional analysis and finally to prepare a scientific publication. Desired
skills of the student therefore include R, modeling (Sankey diagram) and English. Possible opportunity of travel to
Kenya or Uganda.
